The last time I bought a new roll-aboard it was at least a decade ago (maybe longer); it was a CalPak, and served me extremely well (someone inherited it, some nominal wear-and-tear but was still 100% functional and looked pretty good for a 10+yr old bag). I bought this because I needed something with a compartment that was better suited for folded items that tend to wrinkle (like dress shirts and blazers). Since my last bag served me 10+yrs (during some of those years I traveled once a month, and on slower years I traveled at least 4 times a year), I wanted my next bag to serve me a decade also - so I did a ton of research. I hope this helps others save time on researching.
Critical Criteria in my decision making:
- (1) it had to fit practically all overhead bins (I refuse to check my bags);
- (2) it had to be durable and covered by a solid manufacturer's warranty (minimum of 10yrs - from a manufacturer that's known for solid customer service) - it also needed to be extremely resistant to the elements, incase it was ever gate checked (I live in a place where it snows a ton, and travel to places where it's not unusual for it to rain a ton);
- (3) there needed to be a way to divide clean items from dirty items, built in;
- (4) the wheels had to be GREAT - whether it was 4 or 2, was not as important as them rolling smoothly and lasting the life (10yrs) of the bag;
- (5) there needed to be a built in compartment (main or otherwise) that handles items that wrinkle easily, well (i.e., not have those two vertical ridges for the handle/wheels, protruding into the interior of the compartment - this was the only issue with my last bag, and seems to be an issue with every bag that doesn't have a clamshell design...I understand why they have to be there, so I can't really fault the manufacturer for having them...if they were to make that compartment 'flat', it'd chew up valuable space. There are relatively easy solutions to solving this issue, like filling that space as best as possible with shocks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. until you create a flat foundation for your more wrinkle-prone items...or living the packing cube life (something that I'm tempted by).
- (6) aesthetics (if I'm going to own anything for 10yrs, it needs to look nice and be something that should age well);
- (7) relatively spacious (I don't want to own one roll-aboard bag for 2 day biz-trips, and one for 10 day vacations);
- (8) bonus, something with additional compartments/pockets to separate items that need to be accessed quickly from clothes.
Verdict on this bag: a solid 9/10 (this is after 1 trip mind you - if anything changes about my verdict in the future I'll update this) Grade on each criteria below:
- (1) GRADE: A- this thing is COMPACT, I was surprised to see how much I could fit in it, and do imagine that it'll fit practically any overhead bin. I flew a number of different aircraft on my most recent trip, and it EASILY fit everything from a CRJ900 (G7)'s overhead bin up. This did NOT fit in a CRJ200's overhead bin, but I don't think any hard-sided roll-aboard (or any practically sized roll-aboard) will. Even though some have said a roll-aboard will fit in the overhead bins, I imagine that only duffle bags, or underseat-sized roll-aboards could fit in those bins (so I can't really ding my grade of this roll-aboard given that...I imagine the vast majority of flights I'll take in the future will allow this to fit overhead easily). In addition, there are policies that require roll-aboards to be gate checked on these CRJ200 aircraft due to weight sensitivity issues of the aircraft - below is an explanation from a pilot, pulled from a travel message board:
- "As a CRJ200 pilot, I can tell you a 22” bag will fit. However, the CRJ200 is very sensitive when it comes to weight and balance. Due to the nose being heavy, all roller bags have to be gate checked and added to the cargo bin in the back to help balance the plane. So, just get the size you need and gate check your carry-on. You’ll be fine without it since CRJs are usually used for short flight, ranging from 20 minutes to 2 hours max."
- (2) GRADE: A I bought a soft-sided delsey roll-aboard for a close friend 10yrs ago, who is a legit road-warrior (travels 3+ days a week, and might have actually been traveling more than that back then). He LOVED the bag, and it lasted him a long time (he may still have it). Delsey has one of the best warranties in the biz., and I know that their products have lasted others a long time in the past. From my experience thus far, the build quality seems to be top notch. Everything feels and sounds tight, the handles (which is one way I gauge the quality of a bag) all feel exceptionally well engineered - and the telescopic handle has two different settings, and feels extremely sturdy at both settings. The zippers, interior and exterior - all feel solid, and the material is the best for hard-sided luggage currently in use (Polycarbonate - I wouldn't advise any other hard-sided material...others are more likely to crack if flexed too much). Hard-sided luggage does scuff/scratch easier than soft-sided, something you kinda have to compromise on if you want the added internal protection of a hard-sided bag. This thing did have to get gate-checked twice (two CRJ200's) during my trip, and it did get a little scratched on the bottom where handlers would've have slide it in and out of carts...VERY difficult to see though. Hard-sided bags (like this one) are also easier to clean than soft-sided bags, which can be really important if you're traveling to and from places where baggage carts might get dirtier (places with snow, for example).
- (3) GRADE: A+ The clamshell design of this bag, along with it's tie-downs and zippered internal dividers does a great job of allowing me to separate items that are clean from those that aren't. This means I don't need an extra bag(s) for doing so.
- (4) GRADE: A The wheels are excellent, only complaint I have (which is really a result of the 'type' of bag, and not this specific bag) is that when rolling onto and off of moving walkways, the bag tips if it is being pushed on all 4 wheels at high-speed...I imagine any 4 wheeled bag would experience the same issue, so I can't really take points off for that. Also like the dual wheels (so 8 technically), should help limit their wear, and ensure that as they wear they do so 'evenly'.
- (5) GRADE: A The side of the clamshell that the telescopic handle isn't attached to, did a great job of keeping dress-shirts as wrinkle free as possible - the hard-sided luggage also does a better job of ensuring this result. The tie downs in this bag are also great at keeping items from moving during transport (durable and thoughtfully designed).
- (6) GRADE: A+ This thing looks sharp. I also feel that the relatively simplistic and muted design will remain attractive for the life of the bag. The things that make this 'look' better than the competition - IMO - are: (a) it has a sheen without being shiney, so it doesn't have the muted appearance of a cheap plastic beach cooler, or the obnoxious shininess of a hefty garbage bag; (b) the accents on the handles, zippers, wheels, and logo are classy without being gaudy; (c) the color I went with was the 'brick', which ranges in appearance from brick to copper depending on lighting...I like this better than the more traditional colors most manufacturers offer AND, it's colorful without being 'loud'; and (d) the surface is smooth, which I personally like the look of versus a more 'textured' surface.
- (7) Grade: A The capacity of this thing is darn impressive for a bag this size. Hard-sided luggage will always have slightly less capacity than similar sized soft-sided luggage (again, sacrifice for the protection), even with that factored in, this thing holds a ton. I almost never overpack, and when I do it's by a very narrow margin. For this trip, I wanted to put the bag through its paces and see what all could fit in it 'comfortably'. Below is what was packed, without the bag feeling like any of its zippers were being stressed (for reference as far as the size of the clothing items: I'm a 6'1" 175lb male, that wears a medium in all clothing items/38R in suits/jackets, and size 10 shoes):
- 5 pairs of briefs
- 2 pairs of ankle socks
- 3 pairs of dress socks
- 1 pair of size 10 tennis shoes (relatively pliable)
- 1 pair of size 10 dress shoes (not that pliable)
- Toiletries (I pack relatively light in this area)
- Beard trimmer with charger (average sized)
- 2 pairs of exercise shorts (I always pack board-shorts/swim trunks, because they can be cleaned and dry overnight if needed)
- 2 t-shirts
- 2 long sleeve henley's
- 1 pair of jeans
- 2 dress shirts
- 1 13" macbook pro w/charger (2015, newer model would fit easier) - IN THE FRONT POCKET (a nice added feature)
- 1 lightweight jacket with hood (think windbreaker thickness)
- 1 small tech-accessory case (holds two small battery packs and two usb chords)
- 1 small notebook (size of a shortish paperback)
- 1 kindle in its case
This was all WITHOUT expanding this bag, which is one of the nice features it has. As someone who is a very light packer, I am confident that I could do 2 weeks anywhere with this bag alone. I moved my tech items and light jacket to my 'personal item' (messenger bag) for this particular trip, but could've definitely fit everything outlined above in the roll-aboard alone. The only thing that would be a problem for a longer trip (and this is the case with any roll-aboard bag) is fitting my water bottle (don't know if many/any roll-aboards have sleeves/carabener hoops for water bottles...that aren't hideous).
(8) GRADE: A+ the additional front compartment is a nice touch...it DOES get tighter as the interior is filled because it's technically the same compartment, separated via a heavy duty divider (I like this though, because it allows you to choose if you want to put more in the main compartment, or split it between the two). The included TSA approved lock is another nice 'extra' incase gate-checking happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Small Carry On! Very happy with this purchase.
Reviewed in the United States ???? on November 9, 2018
Size: Carry-On 19 InchColor: Blue CobaltVerified Purchase
I purchased the Delsey Helium Aero carry on, the version with the front pocket. Color is Cobalt Blue. I paid $85 (Used - Like New item from Amazon). In addition to the compact size, the other deciding factor for me to purchase this specific case was that it has an exterior handle on both the top and side. I am very happy with the purchase!
I wanted to downsize from my older "full size" soft sided carry-on, and this worked perfect for me. I recently used this newly purchased Delsey for a 3 week trip to 3 countries. 7 different airports. 8 different flights. Carried-on for every flight, never checked it. It worked perfect, held up great, no issues at all. Here is my feedback:
SIZE: I rate the size as PERFECT!
Right off the bat when the case arrived from Amazon, I could visually see that it was smaller than my old Atlantic soft side carry-on. There are no extra pouches or fabric protruding out from the sides of the Delsey. The 2 handles for loading slide back tight against the case, and the main handle fully retracts. The wheels are not recessed. The hard cover on the Delsey makes it more sleek, clean and compact than my old Atlantic soft side carry on.
After I laid out my clothes and started packing, I quickly realized that I could fit everything I actually needed without having to open the expanding zipper. (I also realized how much "extra" stuff I used to pack.) For this trip I packed: 1 pair shoes, 3 pants, 2 shorts, 12 t-shirt/long sleeve/hoodie, 1 button down shirt, 2 ties, 1 lightweight dinner jacket, 1 rain jacket, 1 belt, underwear & a few pair of socks. It all fit without having to cram the case shut to close the zipper. I was going to 3 warm weather countries, so clothing choices weren't too bulky. I also knew I could have my clothes laundered at some point during this trip, which always helps. I was able to fully pack both sides of the case because I did not bring a laptop. I accumulated a few pieces of art and some books on this trip, and these all fit in for the flight home. I never had to use the expandable zipper feature. Overall, this holds way more than I initially thought it would. Very impressed!
Walking through the airports, getting in/out of cabs, arriving at hotels, going up/down stairs.... it just feels like the perfect size. Not bulky at all, and lightweight because I didn't pack a bunch of extra clothes like I typically would. The reduced weight due to packing less is very noticeable when travelling to multiple places on the same trip. This weight benefit was not something I hadn't specifically thought about prior to downsizing, but it makes a world of difference.
8 different flights. The Delsey fit in the overhead bin on every plane. All my flights were on smaller jets, the CRJ, 737, ERJ are the ones I can recall. Simply amazed that it fit in the overhead bin on those regional jets. (In the past, I'd always have to gate-check my old soft side carry on) While waiting in 1 of the airports, I put the Delsey in United's "Does it Fit" carry on sizer display near the gate. It fit in United's (9"x14"x22") without any problems.
INTERIOR: I feel it is High Quality.
The interior compartments are completely lined with a gray fabric with logo/design printed on the fabric. The design on the interior fabric gives the appearance of high quality (instead of just plain gray lining which is a typical signal of "the cheapest"). The interior clasps are durable/high quality, and the interior zippers are average quality, I did not had any issues with them. There are not 100 different pockets which is nice. (My Atlantic carry on had 8 different storage pockets! ....too many pockets means too many places I have to dig through when looking for something small that I tucked away)
The 1/2 with the laptop pocket: has an adjustable clasp to pull everything together after placing clothing items in. I didn't need/use the exterior laptop pocket, so I was able to fully pack this 1/2. (wait... I did put my 2 ties in the laptop pocket to keep them flat) The extra internal material required for the laptop pocket on this 1/2 doesn't seem to take up too much space. I also use packing cubes, to keep everything tidy.
The 1/2 with the handle: also has an adjustable clasp, and then a zippered cover for this 1/2 of the case. So you need to keep everything tight on this side if you want to zipper this cover shut. The zippered cover also has a zippered pocket that is convenient for small items (coins, receipts, etc). The handle for the Delsey is recessed into this 1/2 of the case, however I don't feel that it takes up too much space at all.
There is also a zippered pouch that runs along the center spine. Good place to stash any small personal items that you need access to without digging through everything.
EXTERIOR: Clean and Sleek. maybe too many zippers.
Color: Exterior color I purchased is Cobalt Blue. Looks great, didn't scuff up on this trip but I'm sure it will eventually after seeing a few years of action.
Handles: The main retractable handle is sturdy, slides up and down without any issues. The locking mechanism on the handle never gave me any issues on this trip. The Delsey retractable handle has 2 arms (vs the single arm T-handle type) and I feel this 2 arm handle makes it easier to maneuver when walking through an airport, and is well worth the minute amount of extra space it occupies.
This case also has 2 exterior handles for loading, 1 on top and 1 on the side. These 2 handles are sturdy, and they slide back tight against the case (they aren't flapping around getting caught on anything). The side handle is a great feature, and my travelling companions all commented that their carry on was lacking a side handle. The side handle just makes life a bit easier... when you need to quickly grab the case to walk up a few stairs without retracting the handle, or when loading/unloading into a cab, or when hoisting the case up into the overhead bin.
Wheels: This Delsey rolls smoothly. The double wheels do make a difference. It actually rolls too good, so keep your hand on it when the sidewalk isn't level. I didn't have any issues at all with the case being unbalanced or tipping over.
Zippers: It feels like there are alot of zippers on the exterior of this case. But, they are necessary for the laptop pocket and the expansion feature. I don't really ever envision using the laptop pocket, so I guess I'd love to eventually see this exact case without the laptop pocket and the extra zippers required for it. I didn't use the built in lock feature. The exterior zippers all worked fine on this trip, no issues at all. They feel medium to high quality.
Expansion Feature: The zipper and material for the expansion feature doesn't add too much thickness to the case. I never actually opened it, so I can't report on how much extra thickness / packing space it provides. Photos of the dimensions have already been posted by other reviewers.
Somehow I kept reaching for and/or unzipping the wrong zipper when I needed to open the case (a good idea is to pull the zippers for the laptop pocket all the way to the bottom of the right side so that they aren't in your line of sight). Additionally, the Delsey case opens opposite of my previous Atlantic carry on (when you lay the Delsey case on the floor, unzip the case and the top 1/2 needs to flip over to your right-hand side). I had the Atlantic for over 10 years, so my brain just needs to deprogram and I'll quickly get acclimated.
There is no card/ID slot on the exterior of the case, which would be a nice feature.
OVERALL: This is a great carry on!
The size is right, the side handle adds extra convenience, and the handle/wheels/zipper are all sturdy. I dragged it around 3 countries on 8 separate flights, and it never gave me a problem. I am glad I decided to downsize to a smaller carry on. I am glad I bought this specific Delsey model. I will be using it for a 3 week trip to Europe this winter which will involve more sidewalks, stairs, and trains, and I envision it holding up to those demands also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For International Travel Carry-On

took this suitcase on its maiden airplane voyage to Iceland. It easily fit into the overhead compartment, which for international travel can be tricky. (I think if you expand it, it won't fit.) Using compression bags I was able to pack in it: 3 long-sleeve activewear shirts. 3 fleece pullovers, 2 silk long underwear pants, 2 lightweight hiking pants, 6-pairs of socks and underwear, a bikini, flip flops, winter hat and gloves, plus my iPad in the front pocket part. It was super easy to maneuver and I could still lift it myself into the overhead compartment without struggle. With this and a 24L-sized backpack, I did not have to check a bag. That is a win in my book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great line of luggage, we travel nonstop and they have heald up great!

We have had this suitcase for about 3 months, my partner and I travel a lot for work and pleasure so I did some extensive research on the pros and cons of hard luggage vs soft and the different types of wheels etc. This Aero Delsey line was always one of the top rated and made just about every travel blog luggage rating list I saw. We bought a whole set, the 29", 25" and 2 of the smallest ones the 19" that has the outside pocket and can fit in a overhead bin. I would recommend getting the 3rd party warranty as it covers about anything and is well worth it if you do travel a lot like we do. All of the sizes that we purchased fit inside one another which is great for storage. You do have to get use to how to pack and open the hard luggage if you have never used them before. Don't want all of you stuff pouring out in be hotel. Couple of things I would say to think about if you are looking for new luggage. The wheels are so important, these spinners are great make sure that no matter which luggage you end up buying make sure the wheels are double-sided spinners so it's little 2 little wheels on each one (like on office chairs) some of the cheaper, and even more expensive brands have single wheels and they will wear down faster and break more easily. Also one thing to note, when you have these hard shell suitcases and you get to a hotel or where ever you are traveling to, if you are the type of person that likes to setup a luggage stand and just live out of your suitcase sitting on it, these may not be the best option for you. Since items are stored evenly on each side you have to open the suit case fully like a book to really access everything and to pack and unpack it, just something to consider. In the 3 months we have had these we have traveled 2 times internationally and probably 4-5 times domestically like NYC area to FL and NC, checking these hard shell suitcases does get some scratches on them but overall they have really held up well. The side handles, retractable handle and the wheels have all remained sturdy and we have not had any issues. The lock works great on the side and the inside zipper compartment and straps all work great. You can really fit a lot into these suitcases and the best part about this model is that is gives a little unlike some hard shells so you can fit that extra few things in, it also has the zipper expander but we have not needed to expand it any. The luggage looks great and very stylish, have taken it right into meetings with me and even had some complements. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions I have included a few photos to show have they have worn as most people probably travel less in a year then we do in a few months.

I was so pleased with this bag when it arrived that I immediately ordered a second one for my husband. Can't say how it will hold up since I haven't traveled with it yet, but the size, wheels, expandability, and interior was exactly what I was looking for and the color is great too. Not black but a nice graphite/dark gray. Great price on a normally very expensive line of luggage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid bag with few issues after 4-ish years
Reviewed in the United States ???? on April 7, 2018
Size: Checked-Medium 25 InchColor: TitaniumVerified Purchase
I have had this bag for almost 4 years now. This poor thing has been through an average of 12 - 17 flights a year in that time and I generally pack about 45lbs worth of stuff per trip.
Stuff you might care to know:
- The wheels have been amazing and this thing still rolls like a dream even after being knocked around, drug over gravel and rough asphalt, and all sorts of unhappy abuses. If I am on smooth flooring I can still just nudge the bag with a toe to send it rolling.
- I have no cracks or breaks in the shell. A corner or two has dented in from rough handling at the airport, but they popped back out easily with a little percussive maintenance (we whacked it with a mallet from the inside) and it's fine. I would never even know the corner had been dented. That all being said - is it still as pretty as it was when it was new? Oh heck no. It has scuffs and scratches and spots where the airport put those little bag-tracking stickers on it and the adhesive never quite comes off. Even one spot where there is sticker paper residue from a particularly persistent airport sticker. I could probably the adhesive residue or scuff off if I really wanted to, but why? It's a hard shell case. It's GOING to get scuffed and a little ugly. It's battle scars from all the work that my bag has done for me. It's fine. If you want a bag that is going to stay really pretty, maybe either don't get a hardshell case or be prepared to wash off sticker adhesives and scuffs now and then.
- The extender handle is sturdy and does not wobble or stick. A crack has developed in the plastic that is a little annoying but doesn't impact the function of the handle in any way. The non-extending handles on the top and side are super cushy and comfy and have had no issues.
- The TSA zipper lock works great and you can set the number to be whatever 3-digit number you like. We did have an issue once with TSA forgetting to relock it with their key, but we were able to convince the airport to relock it for us. Not at all the bag's fault, but a possibility with TSA locks I hadn't considered before that happened.
- The zipper itself still works beautifully. It never sticks, it has never broken, and the zipper for expanding the luggage is still as good as day 1.
- The zipper pulls, on the other hand, have been a point of failure. The zipper pulls have a metal base, plastic middle, and then a metal end to snap into the lock. A few months ago one of the metal ends fell off of one so that only one of the zipper pulls would snap into the TSA lock. It otherwise still worked fine. Just a few days ago the other zipper pull snapped at the base and came completely off. The base of the zipper (the bit that actually runs along the teeth and zips) is still fine. I could just add new pulls and it'd probably be fine, but it is worth noting that point of failure.
- The interior has had no faults, tears, seam rips, or issues in general.
Overall I would recommend this bag to others depending on their needs - are you traveling rarely and maybe just to a few US domestic airports or for road trips? Do you want something that will still look pristine 2 years in with no manual effort? Nah. Get something else. This might not be a good fit. It worked out great for me though. The zipper pulls are the only real failure I've had and I honestly will probably just fix them and keep using this bag for a long while to come.
4.0 out of 5 stars Laptop Slot is ideal!

I am day one into owning this bag, but I travel internationally monthly, oftentimes for work and then vacation in the same trip. I am an excellent carry on packer, utilizing a roller like this and a large purse with a laptop spot. Let's be real though, the purse with a laptop gets HEAVY and I really need a carry on with a laptop slot. I had one, but the laptop portion broke in a year and I didn't trust it, so this will be first go at an under $400 bag with the same features. I love that it's built in, not causing excess bulging. Even better, at 19" it will fit both in the top luggage compartments in a plane AND under my seat, which for my fellow small plane fliers, is a must have.
First thoughts: this bag is LIGHT, but once filled up I already know the handle isn't going to hold up. It wiggles in place, feels unstable, and I just...I don't trust it. As an international traveler I usually have to push my bag across an entire airport in a very short period of time. I like to push it in front of me, meaning I completely rely on the handle. My previous carry on could literally be carried by the extended handle (not ideal, but hey it could do it), and still works perfectly after a year and a half of doing that. Im concerned, so that will be my main item I watch for over the next several months of use. I also am concerned about how easy any scuff marks will be to buff out, but at the price, I think I care less than I did with my pink luggage I had in the past.

4.0 out of 5 stars very light and rolls smoothly

I was very happy with how smoothly the wheels roll. Having double wheels is really beneficial. Also, the suitcase itself is very light so I don't have much trouble lifting it to the overhead bins on the plane. I would have given it five stars, but I agree with many reviews that the lift-up handle used for rolling is quite flimsy and wiggles back and forth a bit. However, I have not had any trouble so far pulling it up or down to the various notches.(I think there are three positions), but I have only flown with it one time so far. We will see if the handle continues to function with more use. I also like the fact that there is a handle both on the top and the side of the suitcase so I can carry it both ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little luggage!
Reviewed in the United States ???? on September 21, 2022
Size: Carry-On 19 InchColor: Brushed CharcoalVerified Purchase
I’ve had this carry on for a little over four years. Used to average 15-20 flights a year and it worked great.
Pros: usually will fit on flights no matter the plane size (only got gate-checked when the plane was too crowded). Generally easy to maneuver, little compartments inside are great for organization. Material is great and has withstood a decent number of bearings since I’ve owned it.
Cons:
- I found that I couldn’t really leverage the front storage pocket if I had a full suitcase. Not even stuff, but comfortably full and I couldn’t effectively store / access anything in the front pocket without it getting kind of squished in place.
- on that same note, if the suitcase is full, it can be harder to get the handle up from it’s locked position. There isn’t a hard slot for where the handle stores into the luggage itself, so whenever I pull my luggage down from an overhead compartment, I could pull the trolley handle up half way, and then would have to use my foot to hold the case in place while I yanked the handle up the rest of the way.
That said, totally worth it for the price - it’s been banged around a lot and still in great working condition! I’m still holding onto this one, esp for international carry on trips.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as perfect for travel as I hoped

After years of using hand-me-down suitcases or buying inexpensive ones from TJ Maxx, I decided to research a little and get one I liked, and that would hold up to overseas travel. My husband works with missionaries in Europe and Latin America and I am often able to accompany him. I wanted a medium sized suitcase that is lightweight, attractive, durable and easy to manage by myself. This appeared to be the right choice, but when it is full 35-38lb., the spinner wheels do not roll easily either on carpet or on sidewalks; I often end up tipping it and pulling it like I used to with old-fashioned wheels. And after two trips, the surface is showing major scuffs and scratches. I need to use a luggage strap to stabilize it as the center panel (even when not expanded) seems to shift wildly. In retrospect, I think a more pebbled surface would hold up better, even though the product description claimed that the shell was composed of impact and scratch resistant material.

The instructions to fix the lock with your own lock code include an extra button shown in the diagram for the A button which is not on the lock part of the bag. I figured out the first bag we bought a year ago but this new back would not reset and open with our code. I had to put in the 0-0-0 code to get it to unlock. We have returned it to replace with another bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this suitcase, but it isnt perfect...
Reviewed in the United States ???? on June 16, 2021
Size: Checked-Medium 25 InchColor: TitaniumVerified Purchase
I have had this suitcase for 6 years and 9 months. I travel all the time for work via airplane, maybe 2 roundtrips a month with layovers, and this was my go to piece of luggage. On my last flight it came through baggage claim missing a wheel. Time for a new suitcase. I am researching now but will likely repurchase this one again. You know it's good, but here is what went wrong:
1 year in: Some how received a big poke dent in the middle of the backside of it. Brand new suitcase, and not the suitcases's fault, but whatever poked it really gave it a visible dime size dent so still a bummer.
2 years in: Rubber on handle on top of suitcase is somehow removed or broken off during a flight. Now if you grab the handle to metal pieces stab your hand and it hurts. This was solved by purchasing a handle cover that I still used to this day.
Also 2 years in: TSA lock starts to get a little finicky. Sometimes it won't "catch" to lock and you have to finagle it a little bit. It still does that to this day but it works once you get it just right and most times isn't even an issue.
4 years in: Zipper in the inside pouch broke off making pouch not secure but still usable
Also 4 years in: Extendable handle can get stuck every so often and you really have to jam it. Doesn't happen often but it still does.
5 years in: Outside zipper that makes suitcase expandable broke and is no longer operable. Suitcase is always in expanded mode now.
7 years 9 months in: Suitcase came out on baggage claim missing a wheel. Time for a new suitcase.
Now you may read these negatives and feel like it's not something you want to buy. I can understand that. But for me this suitcase has always kept my contents secure and even traveling with some fragile items there was never an issue. One time there was a downpour and everyone's suitcases were wet and my coworkers all had wet clothes but somehow this guy kept my clothes dry.
I probably could try to do some sort of warranty thing on it but I have traveled with it so much that I feel like I got my money's worth. Despite it's flaws though it was always very reliable and for some reason I feel like I am losing my travel buddy and am going to miss it haha.

My partner and I bought these a couple of years ago and live that set. We recently moved and couldn’t access one suitcase before a trip, so ordered the same one.
The difference in quality is sad - the retractable handle on the new case is jiggly and feels like it could snap like a chicken wishbone - the 3 year old case handle still feels firm.
In one trip the new case is as scuffed as the old case as the putter shell doesn’t feel as weighty (despite being a lightweight case).
If you’ve ever had an amazing meal at a restaurant, and went back a second time only for the food to feel and taste like a 1970s school cafeteria and you’re all bummed, that was what this was like. I was super excited to think I knew that which I was going to get, and was super bummed.

The zipper came off track and was not repairable. Did not think anything of it. I still had two more pieces for travel. Until July of 2022. The 24 inch suitcase had the same problem with the zipper. Now I need to write a review. It has been five years and not a lot of travel with COVID. I do have the 20 inch. I would say I use it way more than the other two. It is still hard at work. The wheels do not maneuver as well as they use to. Please see photo to see how the design is prone to scratches. I noticed them after the first use. I would not purchase this set if I had this information. Not worth the purchase.

Pros: Nice and lightweight. Easy to handle. Love the integrated combination lock. Nice looking bag - when new.
Cons: After a single flight, the exterior didn’t hold up well at all to the airline baggage handling. Lots of scuffs and scratches. When I opened the bag at my hotel, one of the straps inside had come unglued. As I’d packed lightly to leave room for souvenirs, I couldn’t blame the strap failure to overstuffing the bag.
At this price point, I didn’t get the durability I expected so I had to return it.

I have a Samsonite carry on the same size as this but was having a lot of trouble maneuvering in areas of several airports where there is carpeting (like at gates). After reading on line and in reviews I believed that double wheels had better maneuverability than four single wheels. But these wheels are not better and may even be worse than my Samsonite. The rest of the bag is lightweight and a good color but overall a disappointment. The carpeted areas in Reagan, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, Seattle, Atlanta and Sacramento are just a few where the gate areas are carpeted. Rolling or pulling this bag was not easy.

Although the maker of this luggage state that the width is 21.5x 15.5 x 9.5 inches. The product card states 21.5 x 15.5 x 10 inches and that measurement is with the suitcase unpacked. When the suitcase is packed I got a minimal 10.5 and that is definately not overpacked. I really wished this worked out, cause as I said, it is beautiful.

Of course, there is no repair shop near me so that means shipping it to another state at my expense. I have gone to a couple of shoe repair shops here but they don't repair zippers. This is BAD customer service and for that reason, I don't recommend buying this luggage. I still don't have a place near me to repair the broken zipper.

The luggage is difficult to maneuver regardless how you pack. It is always too top heavy for some reason and difficult to wheel on the 4 wheels. If you have a briefcase or another bag on top, you can forget about wheeling it. It is nearly impossible without it toppling.
The zipper on the front broke a while ago which renders the front pocket useless. It is a design flaw I believe.

After packing our suitcase for a trip from Idaho to Australia, the cab was honking and we could not get the telescope handle to come up. After shifting clothes and in tears, I leaned my knee on the back with the handle and the handle jerked up. We had no choice but to take the suitcase with us - that worked before packing, as a new piece of luggage. But beware, if you pack fully - not unusually full packed as it zipped up easily - the handle will not come up unless you use your knee push in the back with the handle. Every time we unpacked and repacked with nothing more or less - extras went in a backpack - the handle would not slide up as it does when empty. What’s more, we purchased two of them and they both have the same problem. We had no choice but to use them for our three week trip, and suffered. There is an expandable feature on the Delsey, and is why we bought, but we never used it. We wish we bought the AWAY comparable which is more expensive but, as I said, is not expandable. We did not use the expandable feature on the Delsey, so the AWAY, which is more expensive, would have caused us much less irritation, and heart ache as we never knew if we would be able to pull up the telescope handle. We know the AWAY handle worked as we traveled with people who used their non-expandable comparable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good for hard-core travelling

I travel extensively for business and was looking for a replacement for my normal carry-on which finally gave in after a solid 2 years of pure abuse. I read a number of reviews on this, and decided to give it a try. Typically, I try to pack at least 2 days of work clothes (Two shirts, two slacks and one pair of shoes) along with 2 days of casual (2 pair of cargo shorts, pair of jeans, two to 3 shirts), along with the normal necessities for international travel. That way I know I have a decent buffer in time for my main bag getting lost. It can be tight at times, but I've had numerous carry-on's that fit the above without any issues.
I am not sure how some people are saying they can fit more than one day's worth of clothes in this thing, nor that it won't fit into any overhead bins...unless you're flying on a Bombardier Q400 or something similar. These people must be very slight in build.
It is FAR too small for me. In fact, I was not really able to get a pair of dress shoes to fit effectively in this. Additionally, the extra little "door" section (while a good idea in theory) just takes away even more space than it is worth.
All in all, it would have been a throw-away for me, except that my wife needed something, so I gave it to her. Consequently, after one use, one of the wheels has started to do a little "wobble". It isn't a crazy wobble, but you feel it.
Before buying this online, I STRONGLY suggest you find some retailer that has these in stock so you can view it yourself. If I had done that, I would not have wasted my time with this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broken Zipper, Scratches Easily
Reviewed in the United States ???? on January 29, 2020
Size: Carry-On 21 InchColor: BlackVerified Purchase
Overall, this seemed like a great bag on my first use. I got the large carry-on size, which is only approved on a couple of airlines. It has a shiny finish that scratches easily and shows the scratches. If the bag is packed in the upper section, I had trouble extending the handle. Opening the bag a little bit relieved the pressure on the mechanism and I was able to extend it. This is not really something you should have to do in the middle of an airport.
On my second trip with the bag, the zipper got stuck. I tried to carefully pinch it together, but I wasn't able to resolve the problem. It only got worse and worse. The zipper misaligned itself in two places to the point where I could no longer open or close the bag (and eventually that became 4 places). The bag is completely unusable. I attempted to contact Delsey support several times in hopes there's a way to replace the zipper (or the whole bag if necessary).
UPDATE: Delsey customer service contacted me and replaced the bag with a similar (presumably newer) model at no cost to me. It took a few unanswered emails, a bad review, several photos, a serial number wild goose chase, and a couple of weeks to get a response. But, once I did get in contact with them, they were quick to just send me a replacement without any argument.

First flight that I used this on after receiving the zipper blew out, fortunately the way I packed things I had larger clothes holding in smaller items so I didn't lose anything. I wasn't overpacked so that was not an issue. I was able to run the zipper all they way back to the beginning and it reset to working again.
I got a crisscross strap hopping that would help, and the zipper blew out again on my last flight, I don't want to use this to fly anymore and I am looking for a replacement.
I would be happy with this case if it weren't for the zipper problem, the zipper is just not strong enough to take the roughness of the baggage handlers and air travel. It would probably be fine if you never fly anywhere.

At first, i was supser excited to get this 29 inch luggage from Delsey. It looks modern, great wheels, handle is well constructed and it looks like one of the more expensive cases but the truth it's made of a cheap plastic mold. After only 6 segments, 3 trips the suitcase cracked on the bottom and up the side (See pics). I've had the suitcase for less than 8 months.
The worst part is that this luggage has a 2 year warranty which is absolutely worthless if it doesnt cover the actualy plastic case Here is what the seller said, "The manufacturers warranty usually only covers defects. For instance if the stitching is coming apart, the zipper is not working or the handle is stuck. In these cases your item would be repaired, not replaced. Damage such as wearing down of the plastic wheels or a crack in the plastic is usually caused by outside forces and will not be covered." That's complete BS. It's luggage. It's going to be handled and tossed aroud by airline workers. This should not have broken so easilty.
I paid extra money for a hardshell based on the reviews and the warranty. Dont waste your time on this cheaply made suitcase. Now i'm out all of the money because neither the seller, the manufacturer or Amazon are willing to stand behind the sale. Very disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did NOT live up to expectations. VERY poor quality.
Reviewed in the United States ???? on May 24, 2018
Size: Carry-On 19 InchColor: Blue CobaltVerified Purchase
Okay, I am flawed to see so many positive reviews on this line of luggage. First off, the zippers are horrible. From day one, I found issues with EVERY external zipper. They all separated. I was able to unzip them and then zip them back up, so there was no residual issues, but a zippers teeth should not separate that easily!! The suitcase was not overstuffed and the expansion zipper was not needed. Still, the zippers all separated.
Second. the handle felt VERY cheap and flimsy. At times, it was very difficult to extend fully. It kept getting stuck half-way extended. Walking with the suitcase on four wheels while navigating through the airport left me feeling uneasy. It certainly did not give a comfortable and confident feeling that the suitcase would endure. I ended up relying on simply dragging it behind on two wheels, which led to question why I would even need the four wheels this suitcase offers.
And last are the actual wheels themselves. While I would say they are the least problematic of all the issues I encountered, I still found them to be less than satisfactory. Being on the smaller side, they did encounter issues navigating anything other than smooth landscape. They certainly did not feel great or give any sense of confidence in their ability, but I would say at best they are par. Not great. Not even good. But not horrible either.
In summation, I could not recommend this line of luggage. I don't believe my specific suitcase was flawed in any way, so I am astonished at all of the positive reviews. Overall, it felt flimsy and cheap. It most definitely DID NOT give a feeling of a premium set of luggage. Honestly, I would equate the quality with a piece I picked up at a bodega here in NYC. I researched them and was clearly very very disappointed with my experience of my Delsey Helium Aero. If I could return this piece, I would. I would never recommend this line to anyone and I certainly will never purchase another Delsey Luggage piece in the future.

I am giving this product a one star because the seam on this luggage separated on the first trip. On the second trip the separation turned into a total blow out epic fail!!! :) By the way I purchased this bag on 6/21/2017. And....for the record I did not over fill this luggage.
I submitted an online ticket through Delsey customer service. I was not sent an acknowledgment message via email; even though, during the online process I gave my email address. After two weeks I called in to find out what the status was for my ticket. There was no record and I was advised I have to ship my luggage out of state at my cost (yes my cost) to another company to have it inspected so the "other company" can advise me whether it will be covered under warranty or not. If it is not covered I will be advised what the cost of repair is. By the way there is no acknowledgement/tie back to Delsey for the repair. This is now between me and the other company. Delsey Customer Service made no attempt to allow for tracking of the issue........I am now on my own.
Did I mention the seam separation started on the first trip.....grrrr...
Good Luck Delsey! Can you save me "the customer" and change this from a one star to a five star? The ball is in your court. I am sending this down to a repair company in Greenville, SC named Ayers Leather Shop. Spoke to Peyton Ayers. Real nice guy. Hopefully he pulls this out for Delsey.
FYI. So far I have spent two and half hours dealing with this that includes going to UPS to ship this article. So far my cost is $35.
Stay tuned Amazonians. I will provide more feedback as this plays out. Some companies end up pulling something like this out of the ditch. At this point it feels like a potential nightmare on the horizon.

I got two of the medium size Helium suitcases for a trip to Uganda (that I am currently on). One bag, when arrived in Entebbe, lost a wheel lifting it out of the baggage carousel. Not even one day into our trip. The other bag, this morning (day 3) had its lock freeze up and we now need to remove the lock. The bags are pretty and I like the divider system inside. Boy are they light, too -- and that is nice. However, the durability is exceedingly poor. I would suggest those considering Delsey to instead look into Samsonite or other brands that have been around longer. A further note, trying to return or get service is nearly impossible -- there is some pretty obscure paperwork required that I can no longer find and nothing in our Amazon buying record can help. Do yourself a favor and don't buy the Delsey -- look into Samsonite instead.

To be candid, I am relatively pleased with the design and quality of this case, for which I would have given the product at least 4 stars. Having traveled with it once and filled it to capacity, I would say that the greatest weakness is its zippers, which started to split on me when I tries to overstuff it. Reducing my fill of the case made the zippers function just fine and it completed its multi-leg trip to Greece with only one issue: a single broken wheel.
As per the guidelines on the Delsey warranty site, I contacted my closest repair center (more than 5 hours away by car). They pointed out that shipping the product to them AND back—as I would be required for such a repair—might be prohibitive, likely a significant fraction of the original cost. When I asked about purchasing the replacement wheel and installing it myself, they said I would have to deal directly with Delsey and that they are very difficult for parts. They advised me to persist with the Delsey online customer inquiry form, explaining my situation and asking to purchase a part directly. Twice I have filled in the full form, explaining my need and providing all details. Once submitted, the webform gives you an acknowledgement for successful submission and an assurance that they will respond within a few days. It has been more than two weeks, with no response. Looking at the Delsey Facebook page where people can provide feedback, I see that some poor man has been persisting (with exactly the same issue as my own) in trying to contact Delsey for MORE THAN SIX MONTHS, without a response!!!
Such neglect of legitimate customer communication is worthy of zero stars, in my book. Thus the low rating. Caveat emptor!

I already had a 19" and wanted to complete the set as I have found it to be a great product and what was showing on the website matches my previous piece exactly. There must be different model years within the Amazon stockrooms or being sent from Delsey because you may not get what you are seeing here. The pictures of each of these pieces very clearly show silver spinner wheels and the square Delsey logo. The 25" shipped to us matched the website pics and the 19", but the 21" and 29" arrived with a different round Delsey logo and black wheels. When inquiring about the ability to replace with the exact item as shown on the website, I was told they could not guarantee the item shipped would not also be mismatched. When you spend that kind of money on individual luggage pieces you would expect them to be as advertised.

I bought this back three years ago on a trip to Japan when my carry on broke, and I LOVED IT! It was the medium size (25") bag, and I took it on several international trips. After a major life change and relocation, the suitcase was stolen out of my storage shed, and while the loss of a suitcase isn't a huge deal, this one was very sentimental to me, plus it was a really great suitcase. Imagine my joy to scroll through my phone, and see the very same bag! Ok, so maybe I did mess up and order the larger size - but the logo is not the same, the color is definitely NOT the brick red (more like a weird rose shade) and I was super disappointed. I'm returning the large 29" back, and ordering the 25" because they are super hard to find; wish me luck that the suitcase I'm shipped is actually the same bag that is listed in the item photo. I'm just not in the mood to be ripped off at Christmas.

1.0 out of 5 stars Zipper tore after second trip

I’d suggest looking for another roller bag. After the second trip and three months of owning the roller bag the zipper tore. On neither trip was the bag over packed. Very disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars A poorly built suitcase that will crack

Very disappointed in the quality of these suitcases. Though they look great and they check all the style and functionality boxes for a frequent traveler, they are made of low quality plastic and four of the five suitcases I purchased cracked on either their first or second flights. Two cracks were in the corners where it is likely that impact from other luggage during loading/unloading caused compression and crushing. There is no additional protection in the corners/edges. The other cracks were in random places on the skin, and also appeared to be caused by the type of collision with other suitcases that you might expect during loading/offloading. All in all, very disappointing and the warranty will not cover damage to the plastic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Luggage falling apart during first vacations with them

We purchased two of these suitcases, having owned Delsey luggage before and having had a good experience with them. We travel a lot and know the wear and tear of the luggage. However in this case we are very disappointed. We are right now in a month long international trip and brought the new luggage with us. After the second flight we took, we noticed scratches on the sides and corners of the bags, but we were not too concerned. After the third flight we took we noticed one of the wheels was broken on one bag, and we had a real difficult time opening the other bag, as the zipper started to break. Needless to say we contacted Delsey to tell them of the issue and their response was that when we returned we should take it to a repair shop that they recommend, to see if the problems with the bags is covered under warranty. These are brand new bags that have taken three flights and already have more problems that any bag we have owned before. We plan to take the bags to the shop when we get there, but we are also going to be talking to Amazon about this problem and I will update the review to let you know what the response was from the shop. For now, we advise anyone interested in hard shell suitcases to look elsewhere as these are too delicate for travel. They do look good when you receive them at home though. Very disappointed !
